David Batchelor | Unplugged

artists, David Batchelor
Talbot Rice Gallery 2007
‘The main work in the exhibition, a group of tall, constructed pillars are designed to reflect Batchelor’s interest in the architecture of the Gallery. With its atrium and intense natural light, it forms a wonderful contrast to the colourful cheap and cheerful everyday fragments which make up the totem like sculptures which seem to play homage to urban life and a global market economy. The objects themselves may be worthless but in Batchelor’s hands they become transformed, the sum surely amounting to more than the parts. ‘
